Enchanting Brisbane: A Couple’s Guide

Romantic dates while in Brisbane for Relationship Counselling

Are you coming to Brisbane specifically for Relationship Counselling with us at Lighthouse Relationships?  You’re not alone! In fact, we’ve seen an uptick in couples coming to Brisbane for the purpose of couples therapy. Some of you are from local regional areas within the South-East, who come to Brisbane occasionally for work or other business - and others are coming in order to access services not available to you in your home town. Still others have come along to us based on a recommendation of a friend of yours in your local area. Numerous couples have come from interstate, and a handful from overseas! Many of you prefer the face to face experience of therapy to online Zoom sessions, and some of you want to meet face to face before feeling comfortable with Zoom. Whatever the reason, you are most welcome in Brisbane - and there are officially enough of you coming to see us from out of town that we’ve put together a little list of things you might choose to do while you’re here.

So, without further ado; here are some things to do as a couple while you are in Brisbane….

Explore Enchanting Brisbane

Brisbane is a beautiful place; at the time of writing this it is a glorious sunny mid-winter’s day, crystal clear blue sky, and 23 degrees celsius outside. It’s true that Brisbane is home to the fictional Heeler family - but every Brisbanite knows that there is so much truth packed into that show about relationships, play, ‘bin chickens’, parenting, and… Brisbane itself. (If you’d like to see some famous parts of Brisbane that show up in Bluey, read Bluey’s Brisbane: for real life. Our personal favourite location in Bluey is New Farm Park, 300 metres from Lighthouse Relationships - perfect for a stroll and a coffee).

A bit more context: Brisbane is Australia’s fastest-growing capital city, as people from other parts of the country fall in love with our picturesque city and beautiful lifestyle. As you embark on your relationship counselling journey, why not make the most of your visit by discovering some of the enchanting local features that we have to offer? From cute romantic spots to quirky adventures, Brisbane has something for every couple's taste.

Brisbane’s New Farm Park - a 300 metre walk from Lighthouse Relationships

New Farm Park: Many couples will have a half day of counselling with us at our offices in Oxlade Drive, New Farm, and then relax afterwards with a walk in New Farm Park. This idyllic green space five minutes drive from Brisbane’s city centre offers beautiful rose gardens, stunning seasonal displays of jacarandas in bloom, riverside picnic spots, and a peaceful atmosphere. Enjoy a quiet afternoon walk or rent a paddleboat to explore the nearby waterways. New Farm Park is adjacent to the Brisbane Powerhouse, a local centre for performing arts, complete with bars and fine dining.

Brisbane’s South Bank Parklands

A visit to Brisbane is incomplete without exploring the South Bank Parklands. This lush urban park stretches along the Brisbane River and offers lovely views of the city skyline. Stroll through the gardens, relax on Streets Beach - the cute and somewhat uncanny artificial beach (chlorinated, yet looking real, complete with real sand… as I said, uncanny! But definitely interesting and worth a look). Or enjoy a romantic picnic by the edge of the Brisbane River. You can also find a range of cafes and restaurants, perfect for a leisurely lunch or dinner date.

In the picture below is the Brisbane Eye, a feature at Southbank favoured by visitors.

Couples love Panoramic Views of Brisbane from Mt Coot-tha

Mount Coot-tha: For breathtaking panoramic views of Brisbane, head to Mount Coot-tha, located just west of the city center. A short drive or a long scenic walk will lead you to the top, where you can capture stunning sunset moments and share the beauty of the cityscape with your partner. (We can recommend booking ahead with the restaurant at the top of the mountain).

Lighthouse Relationships Psychology and Counselling is just across town from beautiful Mt Coot-the, Brisbane

Discover the Queensland Art Gallery & Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), where you can catch world-class exhibitions, performances, and shows. Stop for a refreshing drink at a wide range of bars and cafes nearby.

Kangaroo Point Cliffs just across from Brisbane’s CBD

Kangaroo Point Cliffs: For an adrenaline-pumping adventure, the Kangaroo Point Cliffs are perfect for rock climbing or abseiling with your partner. A number of operators are able to teach you the basics and take you for a safe-yet-scary time on the cliffs. The views of the city from atop the cliffs will make the experience even more rewarding.
