Brad Benson - Couples Therapy Specialist and Individual Counsellor
M.Couns., B.A.Psychology, Advanced Clinical Training (Gottman)
As a compassionate, safe, and affirming therapist, Brad is dedicated to creating a warm and non-judgmental space for individuals and couples seeking support. He works across a range of concerns, including relationships, LGBTQIA+ issues, anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and career guidance. Brad has a particular interest in supporting clients whose current difficulties are shaped by past experiences, recognising how trauma - both obvious and subtle - can impact emotional regulation, relationships, self-esteem, and a sense of safety in the world. His work is grounded in helping clients rebuild stability, choice, and trust in themselves and others.
Brad’s approach is informed by evidence-based frameworks such as the Gottman Method, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness practices, and person-centred therapy. When working with trauma, Brad takes a careful, paced, and collaborative approach, prioritising emotional safety and nervous system regulation before exploring deeper material. Therapy is tailored to your unique history and needs, supporting increased self-awareness, gentle processing of difficult experiences, and the development of practical tools to manage triggers and distress, while fostering meaningful and sustainable change.
For couples, Brad provides a supportive environment to explore communication patterns, intimacy concerns, and conflict dynamics - particularly where past trauma may be influencing closeness, reactivity, or trust within the relationship. He also offers an affirming space for individuals and couples to explore identity, relationships, and the unique challenges faced within the LGBTQIA+ community.
Brad’s work with anxiety and depression is closely integrated with his trauma-informed lens, helping clients understand how symptoms may be adaptive responses to earlier experiences. He collaborates with clients to build coping strategies, emotional resilience, and self-compassion, while strengthening a sense of agency and wellbeing. Brad places strong value on the therapeutic relationship itself, seeing it as a key foundation for healing, growth, and long-term change.
Your lived experience and perspective guide Brad’s collaborative approach, ensuring therapy feels relevant, respectful, and empowering. He recognises the courage it takes to seek support, particularly when working through painful or complex histories, and aims to walk alongside you with care and clarity.
Outside of therapy, Brad has a strong creative interest in filmmaking and has undertaken study at Australia’s New York Film Academy. He looks forward to supporting and empowering you on your path toward a more balanced, connected, and fulfilling life.
